Jamkhed Rural Health Project
An opportunity to study developing world health at a world-renowned centre in rural India and learn how communities can be empowered to change.
For the past five years, the Institute in partnership with the Jamkhed Comprehensive Rural Health Project has run two, three-week courses at the Jamkhed Institute in Maharashtra State of India.
The courses are designed for medical, allied health, social work, nursing or development studies students and anyone who is keen to learn about health in resource poor settings. It forms an ideal base for an elective term. Learn about the principles and practice of community-based primary health care at a program that is an international model, from the staff and villagers who pioneered this transforming experience, and transform yourself and your understanding of health care.
Comprehensive Community-Based Primary Health Care (CBPHC) is a value-based approach that empowers communities to assess and analyse their own problems and develop solutions. CBPHC is an integration of all sectors of society, especially the poor and marginalised leading to a rise in the status of women and community mobilization of resources to address the root causes of health problems and to improve the well being of the whole community.
