Capacity Building for HIV/AIDS Care and Support in the Mekong Subregion
Description:The project goal is to improve the quality of life of Peoples living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and affected communities. This would be achieved through increased capacity of community level organisations (community based organisations or CBOs, NGOS and local health institutions) within the Mekong sub region to manage and administer care and support services for PLWHA and affected communities. The project key activities are setting up structure and mechanisms at the community level for enabling community based organisations in designing, planning, implementing and evaluating their own care and support programs. Community Care and Support Committee (CCSC) have been established and Community Care Facilitators (CCFs) have been recruited and collaborative partnership established with local health institutions. The capacity building of local organisations were done through participatory action research program and training toolkit development for care and support.The project has 6 outputs:
- Participatory action research program development
- Training toolkit for care and support
- Community care and support program establishment
- Increased capacity of local counterparts
- Sharing regional workshops on lessons learned
- Local project management of care and support program.
The project is working very closely with local health department, local self support groups to develop sustainability action plan including income generation activities for families affected by HIV/AIDS. The strengths and weaknesses of the community based care and support program implemented by local support groups (CCSC and CCF) will be documented and shared with all the stakeholders at the end of the project.
