Supporting Human Resource Development and Health Services Reconstruction Project (SHRD & HSR) in Aceh Barat and Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province
Description: The Project comprises four individual but overlapping programs. The purpose of each program follows:
- Clinical Health Program (Provision of staff) - The program aims to build the numbers and basic competence of local clinical and non-clinical staff at Cut Nyak Dhien Hospital (CND), Meulaboh, transitioning from an initial provision of UGM clinical staff for replacing missing staff through to the training of over 24 GPs and 240 nurses from the Hospital and sub-districts of Aceh Barat.
- Child Health Program (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness–IMCI) - The aim of this program is to build the capacity of puskesmas and hospital-based case management of children under 5 years of age in West Aceh (specifically in the districts of Aceh Barat, Aceh Jaya and Nagan Raya), through training 50 GPs and 200+ nurses from the surrounding three west coast Districts in the screening and management of common childhood illnesses. The program has modified a copy of the WHO IMCI Module into Bahasa Indonesian and the program produces a cohort of Master Trainers from among the participants who can continue to train local health workers.
- Mental Health Program (Clinical and Psychosocial) - This component aims to provide the clinical psychiatric and psychological expertise from UGM to train, supervise and monitor community mental health cadres and outreach teams in Meulaboh and Banda Aceh to complement the government’s pioneering of comprehensive mental health services and community-based psychosocial programs in Aceh Province.
- Public Health Program (Health Information Management) - This program is working directly with the District Health Office (DHO) in Meulaboh to install and train staff in a disease surveillance system and with CND Hospital in the establishment and training of non medical staff in a hospital records and information system that is integrated with the DHO.
